VPC Preschool is a safe and secure environment for each child. The preschool is a locked facility while children are in the building. All staff, including substitute teachers, are carefully screened and supervised, including a federal background check according to Vienna Presbyterian Church’s Child Protection Policy. In addition, our facilities are inspected annually by the Fairfax County Fire Department and the Virginia Department of Health. We conduct monthly fire drills so that we may be prepared in the event of an actual emergency.
Each class is led by a team consisting of a teacher with at least a four-year degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) and an adult teaching assistant. Teachers and assistant teachers are trained in First Aid, CPR, PMAT (epi-pens) and SafeTouch (sex abuse recognition).VPCP strives to be a nut-free facility and welcomes children with severe allergies and epipens.
During the pandemic, the safety of our students, staff and school community are a top priority. All VPCP staff members, including substitute teachers, are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We use HEPA air filters in classrooms, require face masks, maintain student and staff cohorts, regular health screening, and use outdoor drop off and pickup locations for all but our youngest students. Please see our Pandemic Parent Handbook for more details on our safety protocols.
Families are expected to do a symptom and exposure screen each school day, and are required to submit the screening document after each missed day of school and the first day of each week. In addition, a Fairfax County Health Department Form must be submitted after medical evaluation and clearance for return to school.
Weekly Health Screening and Return to School Forms can be found here.
